the pictures from the clothing livestream! unfortunately I drew them all while talking, but hopefully i’ll be able to record them in the future
The main point of the entire lecture however was when approaching any kind of clothing or pattern its important to break it down. Before starting on the final picture do several roughs where you draw out the design (even if it looks ugly). That way you understand the composition and can either reduplicate it OR change it up to fit your needs!
lace, jewelry, prints, and fancy designs are in fact comprised of a bunch of very simple replicated images. what seems impossible is in fact just crescents, hearts, and tiny circles! or a series of diamonds with smaller diamonds and circles inside (diamondception). Same with complicated fashion; identify the large shapes and the angle of the body then WHALA! of course it ends up looking better after a few tries haha
and of course that less can be more, especially with thinks like wrinkles and folds, and if you’re scared to draw clothes over your figure get over it. You’ll draw a million better figures! dont hold yourself back
Hey, if you don’t mind sharing, I’ve always wondered how you got that soft celling look on your characters in your comic. Any tips? I’m currently working on my own comic and I kind of want to go for a less harsh form of cell shading. Thanks!
A couple people have asked about the way I color things and I’ve been meaning to post a tutorial on it :]. I’ve never been too good at describing my process, but I hope this helps!
The Google Cultural Institute documents the world’s art and other cultural treasures. At the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, Google workers 3D scanned these skulls, which you can view at any angle.

Well a certain hairstyle doesn’t belong exclusively to guys because hair is hair.
But I guess you’re talking about the typical general western view of what hairstyles are more associated with guys.
My first advice is obviously to just google image for hairstyles on men and look for what most of the hairstyles have in common.
The typical “guy hairstyle” usually have the sides trimmed shorted to show the ears, and the longer hair on top are usually styled upwards to show the hairline p clearly.
Here’s a quick rushed step-by-step in how I’d draw this kind of hairstyle:
Really short hair and afro hair are easiest for me to draw if I focus on the overall shape/silhouette rather than looking for parted sections.
Here’s some more quick sketches that shows a bit longer hairstyles and how they’re styled to follow a certain direction.
Now this is all based on what I know about the typical “western straight hair guy hairstyle” but like this stuff varies a lot depending on where in the world you’re looking at. Hairstyles change a lot after trends and fashion after all.
