gallusrostromegalus:

the-pri-experience:

@gallusrostromegalus I come to you with this, because if this is real, you will know and tell me.

They ARE real!  They’re called Ayam Cemani, and They’re actually pretty hearty and chill as far as chickens go, despite looking like overzealous goths.

This particular rooster belongs to Greenfire Farms, and has been the subject of several magazine photoshoots, which is a pretty demanding job for most moelds, but I imagine it’s even harder when you are a small bird and nobody speaks your language..

They are also available for consumption in a lot of asian markets.  I had some once and the meat was very nicely tender and flavorful- though I think that had more to do with the attention paid to them while cooking than any biological differences.  It’s a very rare and special treat- I had mine at a wedding.

Two misconceptions: Thier blood is a normal red color, not black, and thier eggs are a delicate pastel pink.  Also, the price has either dropped drastically or was stated wrong- Greenfire Farms is selling batches of 6 chicks for $99 usd, or 6-10 week olds for $400 a pop.
