Can I be honest for a sec?
I stopped watching this season of Dr. Who. I just… I don’t care about this guy at all. He’s an ass. Everyone wants to tell me he’s like, “Oh he’s just troubled come on this is his vulnerable side.”
No. He’s an ass. I don’t like him. I am not obligated to like him. I’m no longer gonna watch the show. Maybe at some point in the distant future I will try again, but afaict I am not a current Dr. Who fan now. This new season ended it for me.
This is basically my issue, too. My favorite doctor was Nine, in the episodes where Doctor Who first came back.
The Ninth Doctor was a sassy, likable character with a complex design and was very well-written. He wasn’t this bickering, show-offy, “i-know-everything-Clara-just-do-as-I-say” asshole. He had flaws, he made mistakes (and acknowledged them!) and there was this neat little glint in his eyes that really just made you like him. He was kind, and forgiving (mostly, and only to people who deserved forgiveness), and wasn’t this stubborn man who jumped to conclusions and stuck with them. Nine wasn’t out to sweep his companion off his feet. Hell, sometimes Rose swept him off his feet.
It’s not even Capaldi, either, I just think… Moffat doesn’t seem to be doing a very good job with the show. It seems like he wants to make every character but his favorite do bad things because then, hey, the Doctor can come in and save all of these idiot humans! Because he obviously knows everything and can never do anything wrong. It’s unrealistic and… can never really catch my attention the way Nine and Ten’s seasons could. There was something about old episodes that immediately drew you in and kept you on the edge of your seat as you marathon-ed the whole season through the night. New ones… don’t do that for me. They take so long to build up and suddenly– you have five minutes of the show left as the Doctor pulls some deus ex machina crap out of his ass and saves the world. It’s just really bad writing, in my opinion.
