I feel so slow that I just realized that the Kirindave with Antlers fanart designs are most likely because the ‘Kirin’. If that’s not what inspired them then rock on with your awesome coincidences, guys!

It is funny people predicted it. But I suspect that part of the reason is the same reason we put horns and chops on the design in the first place: cartoon characters need strong profiles to be distinguishable.

Most artists do this with hairstyles. I sort of hate that because I have inherited bad hair genetics and ultimately really dislike how men and women without hair are generally judged to be weak, defective, ill and/or unstable of they don’t have hair. Its just another body shaming trope.

But that doesn’t change the fact that cartoon characters need strong differentiation in profile and palette. So we worked out a few key features you see.

One is the eyes. They don’t look straight forward, but rather furtively look off to the side. This is the very first thing we did to help my avatar be more distinct.

Two is always wearing a hood, but leaving my chops in. Part joke, part serious, this helps add some definition and profile to the character. Its also pretty rare to see.

Three is the horns, which are a recent development we’re adding to help further define the character’s look. The addition of more eyes (canonically kd has 7, as the shell he inhabits degrades further you will see more) is probably less significant. We’ll have to see how these work out. The hats mod definitely helps out here.
