okay so we did some research and a Molly’s gestation period is ~20-30 days so instead of making teeny baby fish on christmas she’ll probably just do it on my birthday instead

ohhhmygod she looks rEALLY PREGGERS
AND SHES ACTING PREGGERS TOO
also one of the Mollies has a swimming bladder problem so she’s kind of been… swimming vertically. poor girl.
we’ve been trying not to feed her, so that if it’s some digestion problem it’ll pass, and she’s getting better, but she seems rEALLY CONFUSED and i feel bad.
better question is how you know a fish is pregnant… and don’t they just lay the eggs?
She’s bulging up around her belly, and is being a little defensive. She’s starting to claim a corner of the tank so she can birth the fish in peace, too, but that’s not going to stop the others from eating them all.
Dalmatian Mollies, which is the species this little soon-to-be-mother is, are livebearers, so the eggs hatch… inside them? and they give birth to little teeny babs? i think that’s how it works. either way, they’re conscious and ready to swim (and are possible snacks) as soon as they leave the mother’s womb.
(also ye i really want to sell them huehuehue. “hELLO PET STORE HAVE FUN WITH THESE REALLY REPRODUCTIVE FISH GOODBYE”)
