For my money, the point where depression gets downright surreal is when you have the forgetfulness and the absent-mindedness, but not the executive dysfunction – so you can still do stuff, but you’re never quite sure what it is you’re doing or why.

As you drift through a sea of mysterious half-finished tasks, your life becomes an endless series of awkward questions from yourself to yourself.

Questions like: “What did I need four pounds of cream cheese for?”

Or: “How did my sunglasses end up in the refrigerator?”

Or today’s prize-winning double header: “Why is there an axe in my laundry hamper? Why do I even own an axe?”
