Say it with me now: Handsome Jack in canon is a terrible, no good attempt at a human being and was so even BEFORE the DHAL invasion because he’d already enslaved Angel by then (not for her own good, but for his own benefit) and yeah maybe he wouldn’t have risen to power as quickly as he did or have gone as psycho-bonkers-crazy had it not happened but that doesn’t mean he would have suddenly decided to become a good person with the lack of people shooting at him. Ignoring his past actions is a disservice to the story being told.

Deep breath… Good? Now: Acknowledging this fact does not mean I forfeit my right to like him. He is hilarious and fascinating and just an all-round interesting character. Characters don’t have to be secretly noble or remotely redeemable for you to like them. You don’t need to feel so guilty for liking a character that you bend over backwards trying to excuse or sugar-coat their past actions to make it “okay” to like them. Handsome Jack is the universe’s biggest douchebag and I love him for it. My life is a landfill and he is my trash king.
